FccZoneĪ spudging wheel such as this is worth its weight in gold when it comes to removing the display from an iMac. The procedure is hardly difficult, but it requires patience, a modicum of finesse, and some tools. Frankly, I can’t do better than theĮasy-to-follow and granular guide on, which is what I used the first time. I won’t bore you with the complete tear-down instructions for a 2015 iMac. The company armed me with a number of relevant tips, and sent me a 512GB Finally, I stumbled on a company with an office in Birmingham, Alabama calledįledging, whose Feather drives run around 25 cents per gigabyte and are available in up to 2TB of capacity. That’s better, but they were from unfamiliar companies I was unable to chat with. Perusing further, I found Apple-compatible SSDs for around 30 cents per gigabyte. OWC’s compatible drives on Newegg were 40 cents per gigabyte, and Apple’s on Amazon were an incredible $1 a gigabyte! This is 2019: standard M.2 2280 NVMe SSDs start at 15 cents per gigabyte! IMAC HDD FAN CONTROL HDD BOARD SOFTWAREI would like to be able to set the max speed but if this is resorting to a firmware controlled setting I am not certain there is a software solution to this. My question is, are there any other options available to me? I know SMC Fan Control is out there but it only allows you to set the min fax speed. Other than the fan the system runs fine - just loud to the point of annoying. They said that in order to fix it I would need to replace the logic board (ballpark cost of $900). I ran a system diagnostics but it came back as normal however the retailer states that 'AST-105 finds HDD proximity sensor error. 2) Tried the HDD in a new iMac and the fans on that ran at max. What the tired: 1) Tried a new hard drive and the fan still ran at max. They said that it appears that both the HDD temp sensor (integrated) isn't reporting the temp properly AND that the logic board could also be the issue. I took it to an Authorized Apple retailer for support (it's out of warranty). All, I have a late 2009 iMac where the HDD fan is constantly running. ![]()
